Penguins Eat Waffles (you’d better believe it!)

Posted June 22nd, 2009 by nina

Sorry I haven’t posted in a long, long while. Nothing is really happening. My dad told me to write a poem on penguins eating waffles. He was just joking, but I did anyway. Well, here goes!

Have you ever been to Antarctica? Probably not.
So I bet you didn’t know that penguins like hot,
Delicious, crispy, crunchy, yummy munchy waffles.

Penguins eat waffles every single day.
It’s what the chickies ask for when they come in from play.

The whole ‘penguins eat fish’ concept is just a lie.
Penguins eat waffles, even in pie.
They’ll eat it in soups, in breads, and even in cakes.
They’ll eat it in pizzas, and cereals and shakes!

So kiddos, next time your ma’s or your pa’s are talkin’ ’bout penguins,
Remember to tell them what you have learned. Penguins eat waffles,
No matter how absurd.

Israel (maybe)

Posted May 20th, 2009 by nina

My dad did a video project for one of his professors, so his professor said that next summer he was going on a missions trip to Israel, and he said dad could go for free, and mom for half-price! That has always been mom’s dream, and mine, too. I’ve always wanted to go somewhere other that America, but I can’t go. It costs around $3,000 to $4,000!!! There’s no way an 11 year old girl can save up $4,000 before next summer! I am praying, but am doubtful. Maybe……

Mother’s Day

Posted May 11th, 2009 by nina

For Mother’s Day, we did… um… well… here it is.

We went swimming at Baylor for three hours, starting at about three o’ clock.  And, after church, Dad took Mom on a date while we secretly cleaned and decorated our messy home. And… we didn’t do much else. Um… we ate. And slept. But, it was fun. :-) Grr, the smiley face never goes in the right place.

Mother’s Day Poem

Posted May 10th, 2009 by nina

Mom, this is for you.

I feel an tug to hold your hand when you take me on a walk.
I feel like I can confide in you when we have our little talks.
I love those long morning hugs you give me everyday.
It shows me that you love me in your own little way.

I’m so lucky to have such a kind, Christian mom.
You set a good example and teach me right from wrong.
You are seriously the best mom to ever grace the earth.
You teach me about Christ, and bring me to church.

Well, the point of this letter was simpley just to say,
I’ll love you forever, and happy Mother’s Day.

I don’t know why I never thought of this, but why don’t I have a contest? I mean, I have a website, and the ability to talk to the world. Well, the tiny part of the world that somehow finds this blog. So, if you know me, then you know that I LOVE writing and reading poetry. So, if you are reading this, I urge you, please, join the contest. Here’s what to do if you would like to join:

1. Write a poem about spring.

3. Type it down in an e-mail and send it to kristina@armitagegirls.com

I will post the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners on my blog. You must send in your poem before May 5th. I will announce the winners on May 10th. I will try, remember, try to have a contest every month. Good luck!

The Beauties of Spring

Posted April 16th, 2009 by nina

Sorry I haven’t written a poem in a loooooooong time. I kept thinking about that, so finally, I sat down and wrote one. Here it is:

Yellow lilies bob their heads, swaying gently in the breeze.
Pink and purple flowers are budding on the trees.

Robins peck on the ground, looking for food for their young.
Jays call to one another, feathers bright blue in the sun.

A deer quietly crosses the bright green lawn, taking each step with grace.
Two squirrels play tag around the lawn, around the lawn they race.

Sparrows fly from tree to tree, and all the while they sing.
I see all this out my window. Oh, the beauties of spring.

Okay, the title is misleading. This post is not about Easter. It’s about the Friday before. On Friday, the seminary mail was closed, so we went to pick up our packages at a UPS building. One of the packages, Mom said, was three Easter baskets. We were all very excited, because this was the first year we’ve ever gotten one, and hopefully not the last. Inside the Easter baskets were two Webkinz, color-by-numbers, coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, window markers, sketch book, wash off tattoos, chocolate easter bunny, and of course, lots of candy. Well, anyway, I wrote this post to thank Mrs. and Mr. Neff for a happy easter. So, thanks! I and my sisters–wait–my sisters and I LOVED it. It was like opening stockings.

No Kidding

Posted April 3rd, 2009 by nina

April 1st. Oh, the horror. I know that was April Fools Day, but seriously, this is real. We’ve been having bug problems, and we have been for quite a while. Like, there were ants in the dust pile when we were sweeping. Those were the first bugs we saw. But now, there are spiders and cockroaches. It’s disgusting. And on Wednesday (April 1st), Emma woke up with a strange bluish spot on her left arm. It looked like a bruise, but Emma said it didn’t feel like one. She was crying, and said it stung and burned, unlike a bruise. Soon, the next day, it started eating at her skin. It turned pink, and went all the way down to the bone. When Mom saw this, as you can imagine, she rushed her to the doctor right away, confused and worried, like any mother would be. The doctor, the second he saw it said, “It is a brown recluse bite.” After he said that, Mom was instantly freaked out, and so was I. We knew that there was no cure for a recluse bite, because Dad got one in the army, and nearly died. No kidding. Ask him if you don’t believe me. I swear, it’s true. And look up ‘brown recluse’ on the Internet. It’ll tell you it’s real, and tell you that they are dangerous. Anyway, the doctor called in the head doctor, the one who was running the clinic. He referred us to the  Baylor emergency clinic. It would normally be a 15 to 20 minute drive, but they used the ambulance truck, so it was about 7 minutes. That was my first time in a ambulance truck, and it was SO COOL!! Although, Emma didn’t think so. She was to panicked to enjoy it. When we got to Baylor hospital, they rushed her in on this cot thing with wheels. But we had to wait in the waiting room. Mom got to go with Emma, and I wanted to also, but they wouldn’t let me. We sat, very bored, for about an hour and a half, Mom checking in on us occasionally. Anja was quite entertained, because there was this kids room where they had a few legos, and a movie was on. I didn’t go in there, though, because the movie was Barny… or, Barnie? And… well, that’s not my type of movie. Finally, Mom came in and explained to us what was going on. Apparently, Emma was only alive on fluids–or… whatever that stuff is that she stayed alive on. You know, that stuff in the tubes? The stuff that–oh, whatever. The point is, she was only alive because of something that’s not… well… natural? And the doctors said she was lucky to have gotten here when she did, because about 20 minutes after she got there, her heart stopped. And so they put her on that… that stuff I mentioned earlier. And she’s going to have to stay there for a few weeks, maybe months, depending on how it all works out. So now here I am, teary eyed and worried, typing this post. What will happen? My sister’s life is in the hands of God, and hopefully he won’t let go. Please pray. I am very worried. Worried that you guys reading this post will discover… will discover that this whole thing is just a April Fools Day trick. Oops. He, he.
